An intimate ceremony surrounded by the ancient landscape of the Riviera Maya

There are places where wedding photography becomes more than documenting a celebration.

Taak Be Ha Cenote is one of them.

For E & X, their wedding in the Riviera Maya was an intimate journey into the natural and cultural soul of Mexico: a sacred Mayan ceremony surrounded by the ancient limestone formations of the cenote, crystal-clear water and the jungle above.

Our role was to capture not only what happened, but the atmosphere of the experience — the silence, the movement, the light, the water and the connection between two people in an extraordinary place.

A Ceremony Surrounded by Nature

The Mayan ceremony took place inside Taak Be Ha, an underground cenote where natural light enters through the openings in the rock and reflects across the water.

The presence of the Shaman, the ancient rituals and the surrounding landscape created an atmosphere that felt intimate and almost timeless.

For us as photographers, this kind of environment requires a different approach.

Rather than imposing a photographic style on the couple, we look for the moments when the location, the light and the emotions naturally come together.

The result is a combination of documentary images, intimate portraits and atmospheric photographs that tell the story of the day without taking the couple away from the experience itself.

Photography in the Cenote

Water became an essential part of E & X’s story.

After the ceremony, the couple entered the cenote for a Trash the Dress session, transforming the atmosphere of the wedding once again.

The wedding dress moving through the water, the textures of the ancient rock and the changing natural light created an almost surreal environment.

These photographs are not simply portraits.

They are images of an experience.

The couple became part of the landscape, surrounded by the deep blue of the cenote and the mysterious atmosphere of the underground cave.

When Light Becomes Part of the Story

One of the reasons we love photographing weddings in the Riviera Maya is the extraordinary relationship between natural light and the environment.

Inside a cenote, light behaves differently.

It filters through openings in the rock, disappears into the water and creates constantly changing reflections and shadows.

For a photographer, this creates opportunities for images that cannot be recreated in a studio or traditional wedding venue.

With E & X, we used this natural environment to create photographs that move between documentary and editorial — authentic moments combined with carefully observed portraits and compositions.

More Than Wedding Photography

Every couple has a different idea of what their wedding should feel like.

For E & X, it was intimate, adventurous and deeply connected to Mexico.

Our goal was to preserve that feeling.

Years from now, the photographs should not simply remind them of what they wore or where they stood.

They should bring them back to the sensation of being there — inside the cenote, surrounded by water and ancient stone, experiencing something that could only have happened in the Riviera Maya.

That is what we believe wedding photography should do.
